The Pacific Kiss Oyster Platter offers a side by side comparison tasting opportunity of each flavour of BC Oysters. Created to showcase sustainably grown BC Oysters at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, the platter which has enjoyed rave reviews from international media and has been served at many VIP Olympic events, is being offered for the first time on Vancouver Island at Locals Restaurant for the month of March.
Kissed by the Ocean
The platter is truly representative of British Columbia’s Oyster growing regions, variety of oyster farming styles and ocean depths. Like wine, oysters owe much of their flavor to terroir, or merroir of the specific environment in which they grow. Just as the geography, soil and climate of a vineyard gives a distinct flavour to the resulting wine, oysters are influenced by their surroundings and develop to be salty or sweet, with notes of cucumber, melon, herbs, flint or copper.
Become a BC Oyster Connoisseur, meet the growers, take the Pacific Kiss Oyster Tasting Tour of our coast and learn everything that you ever needed to know about BC Oysters and the significant environmental and financial contribution shellfish aquaculture makes to our oceans and rural coastal economies.
Locals Restaurant – Food from the heart of the island
Since opening in 2008 Local’s has been committed to celebrating the uniqueness of the Comox Valley and Vancouver Island. With a strong belief in local environmental sustainability and quality, we are very proud to be the first restaurant to offer Vancouver Island residents the opportunity to experience the spectacular variety of flavours found on the Pacific Kiss Oyster Platter and to continue to build our connection to the local oyster growers.
